July Book Review 1 - Heart Stopper (Vol 1) (no spoilers)

Heart Stopper: Adam Oseman

Overall Rating: 5/5

What can I say, I loved this book. Having already binged the Netflix series multiple times, when I discovered it was based on a book I had to get it and read it immediately! If you have watched the series, this book covers only a few episodes. Indeed, this is one of several books in a series so be prepared to want to go out and buy the rest (I will not be held responsible for overspending on books).

Nick and Charlie are characters from Alice's first book, Solitaire, the Heartstopper series tells us their stories in a comic book format. I've never read a coming book/novel before and I have to say I think it is a dyslexics' dream. If you're in a reading rut, a book like this may be just what you need to get you back in then groove. The story was told beautifully with both images and text.

Charlie is an openly gay (actually outed by school bullies) teenage who worries about everything. Nick is a boy with 'golden retriever energy' seated next to Charlie in a new form set up in secondary school. A friendship between the two develops quickly but we begin to wonder if there is something more between them... Charlie certainly seems to be falling hard for Nick quickly.

Their story continues in the follow-up books which I will report on when read!

Have you read any Alice's other books? If so please let me know what you think, I have Solitaire on my shelf at the moment and Heart Stopper vol 2, I look forward to reading them both soon.

Recommendations Would I recommend? YES! YES ! YES!

To Who? I would recommend this book to everyone, perhaps in particular teenagers/young adults from 13 years upwards (note there is a fair bit of swearing in the book, more than there is in the Netflix series).

If you enjoyed this book I would recommend... - They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
